So, if you partake in the Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions of ordering a boatload of Chinese from your local take-out, you probably won’t have to worry much about this story. If you’re Google Maps, though, it’s a small detail to add during a busy time of year for a lot of holiday shoppers (possibly buying Google’s phones).
Businesses that take care of their online presence usually type in their typical operating hours for prospective customers to check on. Google has algorithms that usually pick up on those hours and that data is shown on business entries for the search engine and Maps. But they haven’t been able to note special hours or holidays when they’ve needed to, resulting in people knocking on windows with lights out inside.
Google’s fixing that up. Businesses listing hours for specific holidays will have those corresponding parameters matched in their Google entries. Those that don’t list holiday hours will get a cautionary disclaimer saying that the hours listed may actually be different.
Perfect for not just all the holidays, including those pesky bank holidays the UK’s all on about.
